Tech2Empower Caribbean

Environmental Justice

Program Overview

Caribbean countries are experiencing more and more environmental devastation, beach erosion, sea level rise, and stronger storm surges creating significant hardships in the Caribbean’s coastal and rural communities. Tech2Empower Caribbean: Environmental Justice, hosted in Trinidad and Tobago from March 2-8, 2024, engaged allies within the tech industry and beyond to amplify the work of environmental justice organizations through collaboration, volunteerism, and technology. Tech2Empower provided training, coaching and mentoring services for women-led NGOs from four different Caribbean nations, as well as a day of tech and leadership education for high school aged girls from four local schools.

What was Accomplished

Through Tech2Empower Caribbean, WAKE, in collaboration with strategic partner Caribbean Philanthropic Alliance, combined in-person and virtual collaboration to connect Caribbean environmental justice leaders with volunteer Advisors from leading tech companies. Volunteer Advisors partnered with non-governmental organizations and offered free technical assistance, training, and tools to help bolster meaningful work on the frontlines of the environmental justice movement. Volunteer Advisors had cultural and educational opportunities to deepen their understanding of climate action in the Caribbean and how women are influencing and leading social impact in this space. Learning alongside their NGO partners, this program was centered on mutual-empowerment.
